Turks And Caicos

A British Crown colony in the Caribbean Islands, the main language here is English. Turks & Caicos comprises 40 islands, only eight of which are inhabited. Bathing in the splendorous warmth of their sunny location, these islands are becoming increasingly popular with tourists, hosting some 200,000 per annum, many flying directly into one of two international airports and others arriving by cruise ship.

The main islands of Turks & Caicos are: Providenciales, known as Provo, the vacation center of the chain and the best known of the lot; Grand Turk, seat of government and the main cruise ship port; North Caicos, the unspoiled, natural island rich with beauty and lush greenery; Middle Caicos, with its caves and flamingoes; South Caicos, a fishing center and historic harbor where lobster can be bought off the boats; East and West Caicos, the latter being the site of a new major hotel complex and adjacent community; and Salt Cay, the little island close to Grand Turk. Parrot Cay and Pine Cay are privately owned with an exclusive resort on each.

Turks & Caicos is located 550 miles (885 kilometers) southeast of Miami, Florida, near the island of Cuba, and is technically situated in the Atlantic Ocean, although it is considered a member of the Caribbean islands group. While each island has a distinct character, all enjoy some of the best weather in the Caribbean with sunshine almost every day of the year and warm temperatures throughout. Visitors return time and again to visit the islands they have yet to see, and it has become a place frequented by repeat beach-goers.

There are beaches on each island of Turks & Caicos, some remote and wild, others becoming developed as the islandsí popularity increases. Historically significant and the home to shipwrecks from the distant past, Turks & Caicos prides itself on being a safe, beautiful place with some of the most stunning beaches in the Caribbean, if not the world. These are the islands of dreams; Turks & Caicos is one place not to miss when your virtual tour becomes a reality.
