Only three years open, Playa Uvas Beach has quickly become a popular location for visitors (those staying on Cozumel and others just day-tripping from a cruise ship) and locals; it is close to San Miguel de Cozumel and accessible for everyone.
Purpose-built as a beach and its amenities, Playa Uvas Beach boasts a Mediterranean theme in the buildings, food and wine, and the classic interlocking brick boardwalk that winds around the shopping area and the periphery of the beach. It is lined with small stores and kiosks offering snacks, beach gear and rentals, and local handicrafts.
Playa Uvas Beach is the hip, cool, modern beach of Cozumel, and in keeping with its Mediterranean sensibility, the beach is laid out with crisp white umbrellas and matching loungers. The beach area is lush with palm trees and natural shade, and the and evolves toward the shore into pebbles and rocks, creating an interesting composition of nature.
This is ideal territory for snorkeling with the Chankanaab Reef close at hand. Snorkeling tours and organized dives help explorers learn about the vibrant reefs, their history and what is being done to ensure their long-term preservation.
At night the tastefully decorated restaurant and bar offer music videos on a large screen and many people opt to dance. Playa Uvas Beach is deceptive in that it does not feel as busy as it is. It has struck the right balance and will certainly continue to grow in popularity.
