Not the typical white sand and blue water beach that is so common on Cozumel, Playa Corona Beach is, as a result of that, in many ways more interesting. A sand crescent wraps the edge of the beach, which then gradually transforms into pebbles, then rocks and even a few boulders right at the shoreline, and the water tends to be a pale turquoise green rather than blue. Donít let the ring of seaweed deter you from visiting this beach; itís not always there and simply adds another color dimension to the beauty of the beach.

A gazebo protrudes into the water at this small beach, and itís a perfect spot to sit early in the morning while the rest of the world sleeps; gaze out over the water and feel the sun slowly warming the land. Playa Corona Beach is small enough that you can enjoy periodic solitude.

Not far off shore is the lush Chankanaab Reef, resplendent with marine life and beauty, an idyllic place to make your first or one-millionth snorkel dive. Here is the place to engage in that pastime! Or if water sports are not to your liking, beach volleyball is a great way to get a little exercise in the sunshine.

If you care for a short hike, Laguna Chankanaab is nearby and a pleasant spot to visit. Try to aim for the early morning, certainly before 10:00, to avoid the heat of the day. Afternoons should be spent with little movement and in the shade of a graceful palm tree.

The beach bar and restaurant at Playa Corona Beach are constructed with local stone, and present an impressive image, reminiscent of some of the many Mayan ruins on Cozumel. This is a well-balanced beach, the right measure of activity and relaxation in equal parts.
