Like so many places in the world these days, the Middle East seems to harbor hotspots for turmoil when what everyone should do is simply take the day off and head to the beach for some relaxation! The countries we will include in this
region of beach.org’s pages include Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
For a smaller region, the Middle East touches a large number of bodies of water, among them, The Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea just to the north of Turkey. The climate
varies from temperate in Turkey to desert tropical in Oman and Yemen.
Most historians believe that this area is the seat of western civilization, and part of its appeal is the ancient history that abounds in many of its countries. From flat deserts to lofty mountains where the climate changes rapidly upon ascent, to fertile lowlands,
the sandy soils make for superb beaches.
The countries of the Middle East sport coastlines, some of them quite small; Kuwait and Qatar have minimal coastlines, but are active in beach life. The Israeli port city of Haifa is more than just a bustling Mediterranean commercial harbor. Because the city is
surrounded on three sides by the sea, beaches are everywhere you look; Carmel Beach is a favorite with locals and tourists alike, its golden sand warm in the sun and the adjacent, vibrant café culture.
Many people overlook the Middle East when considering a beach holiday. There have certainly been well-publicized conflicts between countries and religious factions in the area, but the majority of the region enjoys peace and great weather all year round.
The addition of places of historical significance makes for a vacation not just steeped in water and sand, but in the roots of civilization as we know it today.
Parts of the Middle East are more open to western tourists than others and we’ll assist you in learning the best places to visit and enjoy the beach of your dreams. At beach.org we’ll have articles about all of the Middle East’s beaches and include travel tips
on matters such as safety, local customs and risks that might be involved. The Middle East has beaches galore, so let us introduce you to a place you might not have otherwise considered in your travel plans.
