For the people in the northern hemisphere, South America’s seasons are upside-down, making it a great place to visit when the weather isn’t good for northerners. With an ancient history and some of the most incredible sights on the
planet, such as Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands, the countries of South America boast some of the most famous beaches anywhere, names like Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach.
This section of beach.org includes the coastal countries of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, Uruguay and Venezuela. Land-locked Bolivia has lakes and therefore beaches, so it will be
covered, too. Paraguay is the only country in South America that lacks beaches; its only major body of water is the Itaipu Reservoir that rests on its eastern border shared with Brazil, and while a pseudo-lake was created by the construction of the dam, the
beaches are little more than rubble and it is not a place for beach-goers. Should Paraguay develop a beach on a small lake or river, we’ll be sure to include that in our beach collection at beach.org.
South America’s coastlines catch some of the world’s great oceans, including the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Caribbean Sea. The Equator runs right through Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador, and that means heat! At the southern tip of the continent, below
50° latitude south, sits Tierra del Fuego, cold in the extreme, but it has beaches for pleasures like whale-watching and iceberg observation, and experiences like few other places can deliver.
Brazil has the longest coastline in South America and some of the best south Atlantic beaches, certainly some of the best known. Chile’s long shoreline is dotted with beaches and backed by mountain ranges, making its Pacific coast location one of wonder
and unique travel experiences.
While Colombia sits on the warm Caribbean Sea, most countries of the world continue to advise their citizens to steer clear. Thanks to political unrest and criminal goings-on, Colombia has a way to go to bring itself into the sphere of vacation travel destinations,
but we’ll cover its beaches in anticipation of that day.
Other South American nations situated on the Caribbean Sea offer fantastic vacation pleasures, Venezuela being the most popular. But Guyana, Surinam and French Guiana are some of the best-kept secrets on the continent; you’ll read about their amazing
beaches right here at beach.org.
For most people who live in westernized countries, South America sounds exotic, and it is! Even its big cities, like Rio de Janeiro, although bustling and corporate, much like New York, Toronto or London, harbor a sense of enchantment that beach.org will bring
to you through our pages, enticing you to explore.
